'We Are Beams'
‘Beams’ is a local charity supporting disabled children, young people and their families in Dartford, Gravesham, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas.
These children and young people typically have one or more learning difficulty, complex health needs, physical or sensory impairment.
The aim of this wonderful charity is to be a leader in transforming the lives of disabled children and young people, enabling greater independence and control of their lives and futures.
Beams was established as a charity in 1996 by a group of parents who believed that they could deliver better support for their disabled child by working together than they were currently getting through the local authority. They became directly accountable to the parents, carers and young people who accessed their services.
Twenty four years on, the charity has grown due to demand, and now offers 4 key services to at least 450 parents and children at any one time. We need to generate £1.5 million through charitable donations in order to continue offering these services to some of the most vulnerable in society today.
Our mission is to provide comprehensive support services to families of children and young people with any form of physical, learning or sensory impairment.
We aim to support the whole family through a menu of services that directly benefit and assist those dealing with the challenges of raising a disabled child.

- Dragon's Retreat Respite Unit
